フランス、パリから電車で約1時間の町、オルレアン市で建築展「アーキラボ2006」が行われた。アーキラボ2006では、模型や写真による展示で実作を紹介するほか、伊東豊雄氏や隈研吾氏によるインスタレーションなど、会場で体感することのできる作品が設置されることになった。その一つとして、会場入り口にある植え込みの作庭計画を、私（前田茂樹）と菅原大輔氏が担当する機会を得た。
FRAC CENTREからの依頼を受けて考えたのは、フランス式の観賞用の庭ではなく、日本の回遊式庭園のような体感性のある庭とすることだった。地面を白砂で覆った上で、既存の樹木に織り込むように市松状に鏡面群を挿入し、庭全体に広がる起伏のある景観を生み出した。その起伏が6種類の角度を持つ鏡でできていることによって、そこには空や周囲の緑、風景が予測の付かない切り取り方で映し出される。日本庭園の持つ環境と身体との関係を、鏡という現代的な素材を用いて増幅させた「実験的」なランドスケープだ。
この鏡面群は会場入り口にあるため、ビジターは必ず二つの庭の間を通り抜け、視線の移動とともに移り変わる風景を体験する。静止画の中に、市松状の別の映像が早送りのスピードで挿入されているような感じになったのではないかと思う。夜間のライトアップはしてないのだが、犬の散歩をしている地元の人から呼び止められ、「夜の空を映している風景が、とても美しい」と言われたことがうれしかった。

The existing site is considered as a stage, which brings trees and flowers forward into view. Each planted element is isolated and acts like a discrete object. The ground has been covered with white sand and the vertical surfaces have been covered with bamboo trees, creating a unified landscape within the defined area. This landscape is designed to invoke multiple sensations. With a visual appreciation of the planted object, we are moved into feeling the Space with our entire body = Body LandSpace.
Groups of mirrors have been placed in the white sand in a checkerboard pattern. The movements of the visitors transform the aspect of the mirrors, creating an interactive relationship. Seen from far away, the mirrors resemble ‘'solid objects'', like the large rocks often found within a Japanese garden, because of its form. From mid-distance, they look like one continuous ‘'surfaces'' which are floating on the ground, because of checker pattern and shadows under the mirrors. Up close, they become pixel-like, mapping different images of the existing site because of different angles of each mirrors.

Les surfaces de plantations existantes sont utilisées comme des socles, sur lesquels on exposerait au regard des arbres et des fleurs. Chaque élément végétal est isolé et agit comme un objet discret. La terre a été recouverte de sable blanc, les murs peints et d'autres plantations ajoutées, afin de créer une unité. Ces paysages sont destinés à être des lieux de sensations multiples. D'une appréciation visuelle de l'objet planté, nous sommes amenés à ressentir l'espace avec tout notre corps : Espace= Corps PaysagEspace
Nous avons disposé en damier des miroirs carrés sur le sable blanc. Les mouvements des visiteurs transforment l'aspect des miroirs, créant une relation interactive. Vus de loin, les miroirs ressemblent à des objets solides, telles les pierres qui se dressent dans les jardins secs japonais (keresansui). A mi-distance, ils prennent l'aspect de plans posés à même le sol. Vus de près, ils sont comme des particules élémentaires d'images où se projette la topographie du lieu.
